I got my first rat today - a little agouti girl that I named Pepper. Just seems to suit her.

Heh of course it suits her, i think it has a little to do with the fact she is pepper colored , though a cute kinda pepper colour.

Well, she seems to have the temperament to go with the name, too..
I also added two more girls to the mix yesterday. Bonny, who is a total shirt diver, and Cookie. When I met Cookie the name just came to me, and it wasn't until later when I saw her figuring out the water bottle and being the first to explore and try the unfamiliar things in the cage that I learned why - She's a Smart Cookie!

Hmmz i wonder if they just take after there names. Maybe we should test this. I'm certainly hoping that when i get my boys the one I'm naming Dexter doesn't take after the Dexter i got the name from.

nawww i wouldnt worry too much about the Dexter name... we called our silvered dove boy Dexter cause the show came out around the time we got him. He is a sweet boy and terribly smart :-) he can walk on his back legs and do spins and do both in succession lol.

I breed mice, though I rarely name them straight away. I usually wait until a name comes to me or I come across a mouse that fits a name on my list of names. In the meantime, they just have ID numbers. Here are the names that I've used so far: Boys- Killer (he was the kindest boy, hardly territorial)
- Sky (he was very pretty so I gave him a girly-sounding name)
- Olive
- Picton
- Chicko
Girls- Jean (my only "human" name)
- Minion
- Ambient
- Winch
- Tesco
- Orica
- Bunny (she's a black dutch and reminds me of a rabbit)
I generally avoid using human names. I prefer to name animals after places, things or ideas. I usually try to go for names that are easy to say and roll of the tongue. Here are some of names I listed for my own future use. - Aeon
- Angle
- Billiton (BHP Billiton - mining company)
- Copper
- Divot
- Eyre
- Felon
- Jarrah (tree)
- Karri (tree)
- Lentil

I usually google pet names and come up with heaps of ideas. Then I pick from that or use them to get more ides. I usually go with themes or names associated with things. My rats Daisy and Milli were just because I liked them, but my other pets names are as follows:
Albert, Wilbur and Archie (all reptiles/lizards) No real reasons.
Bugies I bred include: Snap, Crackle and Pop (I love Rice Bubbles), John, Paul, George and Ringo (Love the Beatles too!!!) and Gucci and Dolce (A girls gotta have a good taste in handbags)
Bert and Ernie are my Cockatiels and George and Mildred (TV show... ABC???) were my Siemese Fighting Fish.

Dreamer I really like the names you suggested. I have rats named Possum & Tess (but it's short for Tesla). Plus my 2 favourite names for humans are Sophia & Isabella... very Italian.
As for other name suggestions, I'm going through a phase of naming my rats after other animals. So I have (or had) a:
- Monkey - Bunny - Squirrel - Possum - Bear

haha
The first ratty I got was named Squishee, cos the day we brought him home, my boyfriend sat on him, and he looked completely unfased, just pancaked.
The second was possum, cos she had such a possum-y facem it was cute.
Squishee and Possum had babies, three of which I'm keeping. Nacho (named by boyfriend's little sister is named such because she fell into a pot of Nacho dip while she was playing with her. Mahalia was named after one of my favourite books, and apparently it means 'powerful' or the like in Arabic, which I think suits her well xD And in naming Anathema, i had no choice... boyfriend named him lol
Then there's the others, but they don't have permanent names yet lol..
