My daughter advised me tonight that she wants her rat to be a PEW and she wants to call it Tic-Tac... Certainly has an imagination... I'll wait till I see what personality mine has before naming it, although I did like the Harry Potter suggestions... Our Dog's name is Oliver (Named after Oliver Wood, and his full name is Oliver James Remus Wulfric Black. I know, sad... hehe) asy

I already said our babies' names in another thread, but just in an effort to keep all the names together, ours are: Reepicheep (from Narnia, I know, he's a mouse, but it's a cool name). He's a Black Berkshire silk with the cutest white feet... Our other two are named after scientists, as their father is Galileo... Copernicus (Nicky for short), Lavender Berkshire Silk and Archimedes (aaaarky for short), Black hooded silk. I really like the scientists bent, it's cool. Archimedes was a choice between that, Socrates and Pythagoras. asy

Asy! I was going to call one of my babies-to-be Archemedes! Such an awesome name! But I'm getting girls.. Still, all I can come up with is boys names! I really really like the name Nicodemus (from The Secret of NIMH, he's the leader of the mechanical rats) But again, it's a boys name!! I'm thinking of naming my girls Artemis and Athena, or Bellatrix and Morgan Le Fay (or Morganna). Or Desdemona and Ophelia. I can't decide... I need to do more mythology/literature research!

I can't decide... I need to do more mythology/literature research! That was the name of my blazed boy's father (Archemedes). We met him when i bought my boy - he was a big argente hooded buck. I like the idea of using god/mythological names - they sound very pretty - especially for girl rats

hehe yeah wulfy, I'm a mythology/ancient history nutter as well as being animal mad. Naming them after gods or historical figures I like is easier than teaching them to read and training them to research with me. I'll tell you what I end up naming them!

The last ratties I had were called Timmy (Timid) and Treppy (Intrepid). I tend to name based on personality Both rats were lovely and tame of course, but Treppy was absolutely nuts! I have a photo of her on my lap sniffing noses quite happily with our very large mastiff-mix dog (he was a very polite gentleman who wouldn't try snapping them up as he knew very well that Timmy and Treppy were mine). I'm planning on getting new ratties soon and wonder what names they will end up with!

Rats:Soap - When she was a bub she popped out of my hands like a bar of soap. Kereru - Maori name for pigeon as her namesake is a doe I had, Pidge. She's uncannily like Pidge in personality. Mischa - Hannibal Lecter's little sister was named Mischa. Mura - Hannibal's aunt was Lady Murasaki. Saki - See above Anniba - Mischa called Hannibal "Anniba" Nacho - Bucks smell like nacho chips. Zerello - Name of a thoroughbred (a mare, don't tell him his namesake is a mare!) in the race section of the newspaper lining his box on the way home. Escapee - Escaped at a young age Limpet - I always have a rat "limpeted" to me Rats at the Bridge:Pidge - Woke up in the middle of the night after having a dream about Lady and the Tramp (night after I bought her and Soap home), shook my boyfriend awake and announced "Her name is Pidge!" and went back to sleep. Ratzilla - He was so tiny I had to give him a huge name Clarice - By now this should be pretty self-explanatory! Other pets:Precious - As in Precious Pup, but later like Jame Gumb's dog Precious in Silence of the Lambs. Devil - Show name is Devil's Advocate. Hannibal - Go on, guess. Budgie - No name ever fit him, so he was just Budgie Little Dove - Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove with a love big as the sky; Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove with a love that couldn't die. Shumba - Lion! Rawr! Sylvester - Looks like Sylvester. Original, I know. I have a few ideas for when I started breeding and establish lines. Characters from Tamora Pierce books (Keladry, Raoul, Alanna, Rikash, Veralidaine, Niko, Numair); characters from the Smokey and the Bandit movies (Bandit, Justice, Big Enos, Little Enos, Frog, Cletus, Snowman, Beau, Darville); characters from Xena/Hercules (Xena, Gabrielle, Iolaus, Autolycus, Joxer, Jett, Jace, Alti, M'lila, Callisto, Ephiny, Lao Ma). To go with those Herc/Xena names I could have ones with similar themes. With the popularity of those two shows a bunch of others were made like BeastMaster and Sinbad. I could also go with the Greek/Roman deity theme (Ares, Hades, Hera, Aphrodite, Cupid, the Furies, the Fates) or even a Titans theme.
