Hi Ratztree, They are just sooo cute. All snuggled up. They are a lovely color. What type of rats are they, and what do you call those colors? They look creamy chocolate. lol. Angie

Hi GardenAngel & LocLak, thank you! They are brown, Coco being the darker one. Yes creamy chocolatey was what I thought when I first saw them, thus the names Coco and Cadbury hehehe.. but I read somewhere that their coats will change at some point and the colours will darken to somewhat black-ish. It hasn't happened yet though

They are beautiful girls ratztree Angie baby rats tend to have a lighter coat than adults and wont come into their full adult colour until they are 12 to 14 weeks old. Black is also a colour that can seem chocolate when young. Also amonia in rat urine can discolour a coat making black look brown or brownish red. Rats tend to urinate in their bedding, wild rats urinate in their nests as well and scientifically this is thought to be done partly to increase the warmth of the nest or bed. Which may also explain why rats love to lay in rat piles, one on top of another.

I guess they haven't reached that age yet, I don't really know their exact age and cause I see them everyday, they don't seem to be growing much.

I've posted photos of my 3 in the Rat Photo Album in the main forum section. So thats why I havent posted their pics here as I didnt think we needed posts/threads the same. Which could be why others are not posting their photos in here. But just so your girls are not alone in here, I'll post them again. Vash - Agouti mm Berkshire Male Spike - Agouti Self Male Merrick - Agouti mm Irish Female

Hi Nathan, You guys are so cute. How old are they? What makes the a Berkshire, self and Irish? and how can you tell them apart? Is Agouti the color or type? Angie

Hey Angie In the main forum we have a section that tells you what markings, colours and coats are called, so it will make things a little easier for you when you get to the main forum. All 3 of my rats are over 2 years old. Agouti is the colour. Berkshire, Irish and Self are all markings. If you see mm in front of a marking it stands for MisMarked, meaning its not a perfect marking. Berkshire means it has a white stomach Irish means it has only a white triangle in its chest Self means it has no white at all They are very easy to tell apart as Vash has white socks because he is a berkshire. Whereas Spike has no white at all on his legs. Merrick being female is smaller than Vash and Spike so its easy to tell her apart from the boys. Plus they all have their own little mannerisms and having had them so long its very easy for me to tell them apart.
