Hi guys I thought as I joined the other forum through petlink ads its only fair to try this one too.
I have a rodentry in Western Sydney and breed both rats and mice. I am trying to work on bareback rats but health and temp are my number 1 priority.
I see a few unfamiliar names around here so might find some new points of view which will be very interesting.
So Hi and thanks for having a place for us to get together

Hi Sandra, Welcome to the forum. I love barebacks. I thought as I joined the other forum through petlink ads its only fair to try this one too. Hmmm... now I have to go and check out petlink. I only rarely check out petlink.. most of the time when I do its because of someone pointing out something that people should see. Oh and I've seen you and talked to you on other forums.

Hi Kim you might be more familiar with me if I tell you Im on another forum as Freckles. I thought it was time to change and use my rodentry prefix letters for my log ins on rodent forum LOL. With all these forums to chat in now I'm sure to find loads more fresh ideas but then again there are a load of familiar names here too. i guess there are only so many rodent lovers and we pretty much all troll the same sites

Another member who has joined from the post on petlink. Thanks to myeternity for directing me here . Rats and mice have been a part of my life for at least 15 years and i am still as keen on my babies as i have ever been . At present i have 6 males and around 30 females ranging in age from 21/2 years to bubs . I am working on rexes at present with 1 rex boy and 3 girls . i do have 3 young rex boys at around 5 weeks old . Ok i left my litter together too long and i think 2 of the boys are double rexes which i didn't want . But with their personality they can stay . In the past i had blazes ''was told i was the first in queensland to breed blazes under my prefix of Bejayare.'' that was around 8 years ago so wasn't many rat clubs then . I started my blaze line with head spots and line breeding to them . In my first litter of blazes i had 3 blazes out of 8 so was rapt . My wife never liked the rats until Febuary this year when i lost a mum in a very hot day and the babies had to be hand raised inside . Julie 'my wife helped and now she adores her ratties . Even has 1 who comes when called . Thats a little about me and my family so when you see my posts you can say ''Thats Barry and Julie and they are both over 60 and still can be owned by ratties '' Thanks heaps Barry

Hi Barry and welcome. Yeah I've had rats for just a little longer and I think once you have them you are hooked for life. My husband loves my rats, although he prefers the smaller girls, and even though he has been around them for 14 years now he is still a little nervous. Think part of that though is that before me his only real experience with rats was wild ones that would nest in the signal boxes that my husband "David" works with. One of his work mates actually got bitten by a wild rat. Anyway can I just ask why you didnt want double rex babies?

Hi, my name is Jacqui and I've had pet rats now for the last 10 years or so. I've been breeding rats now for the last 2 years and am trying develop a good healthy blue line. I have 16 rats right now, but 11 are babies and 9 of those are soon going to new homes (always hard). The rats who I think deserve special mention are Nacho - a huge beige mm hooded boy and Jackson (Blackie) - a black mm hooded boy; they're brothers who are just over a year old now and haven't grown up one bit. I do from time to time have babies available and am always happy to try give advice. I live up on the Central Coast in NSW but spend a lot of weekends down in Sydney as that's where my family lives. I'm currently at uni doing a bachelor of social sciences which I guess is what takes up most of my time. Aside from my beautiful ratties I also have a burmese cat called Isabella, who believe it or not gets on great with the rats and doesn't have a hunting bone in her body. Why am I interested in rats? I love their quirky personalities and intelligence. One example of this is when me and my partner pretend we're very interested in something that normally the rats wouldn't care about, such as a tissue or piece of paper. Next thing you know it's the only thing the rats have ever wanted and they become extra sneaky in their attempts to steal it. Well that's it from me for now Jacqui

Hey I just joined up, (yet another referral from myeternity on petlink.) I live in Qld and owned rats when I was a teenager. I decided in this Year of the Rat to get some more and went online to find some info and breeders in my area and had no luck at all! I ended up buying petshop rats for lack of an alternative, but they are pretty special to me. My best boy is Loki, god of mischief, a blue DU hoody. Smoke, black berkshire, Maia, fawn hooded female, and my newest acquisition, Snow, PEW rex female who I found languishing by herself in a small pink cage at Pet Barn, Wises Road Maroochydore. She was pregnant, and has since had 9 babies. I would really like to know some history on her, if anyone knows who is breeding rexes up here on the Sunshine Coast?

Hi and Welcome Harlequin. About 2 years ago maybe a little longer (I would need to check my records) I sent up 4 double rex boys to Brisbane to a breeder who was just starting out. As far as I know she no longer breeds but they might have come from her. They might also have come from Carawatha rattery who is still breeding, and had rex rats 3 years ago so probably still has some. Any rex rat that originally came from these breeders rexes could have been bred by someone to produce the current rat you have. The problem breeders sometimes face is that people who adopt from them breed those rats either by accident or by design and then sell the babies to other people or pet shops when they cant find homes themselves and then those babies get bred eithere by accident or design.... and so the circle goes on and on. So you may never know any history on this girl. How old is snow? As she may be too young to produce babies, by that I mean that if she is under 6 months and having babies then her babies and herself may very likely be stunted and not reach a normal rat size. Anyway this conversation should probably be in a topic of its own So I will once again say welcome.

Hi Kim, Thank you. I do breed occasionally, but my health is not the best at the moment, so I have had to take a step back for a while unfortuneately. Dave
