Hi and welcome ... You will find loads of great info here.. A lot of new rat owners get a single rat at first not knowing they are better with company ... The main reason for that is that rats groom each other and play and sleep together ... Also for rats 2 months of being alone is like a human living alone for 3 years.. So every 2 months is like 3 years to a rat.. Although of course they are not completely alone when they have some human contact..

P.S ..
What I said wasn't a criticism about only having one rat..
I just mentioned the fact that for rats 2 months is like 3 years, because its an interesting fact, that most people don't realise...

hi, I never wanted a pet rat, but i found a small native pseudomy rat at uni. She turned out to be highly active, so i changed from a mouse to a bigger rat cage in order to house her. Unfortunately she escaped. I went to the pet store to find a mouse and instead the shopkeeper asked me if i wanted to see some rats, she had sold me the rat cage a few days before. she told me she was re-homing two 6 month old brothers. I fell in love. They're amazing little guys both with distinct personalities. Ones more adventurous whilst the other is affectionate, I could never have imagined what wonderful pets rats can make!

Thought I should introduce myself My name is Nia, I live in Townsville, QLD with my Fiancé Josh, and I have three furkids that I love dearly. Pip is a (approx.) 5 month old Fawn Hooded female with the gentlest nature you could imagine - she is a softy and loves to be cuddled by mum haha she's a little shy and guarded when left to her own devices outside the cage, and will quite happily go running to whoever is closest for a hug CC (Cookies & Cream) is a (approx.) 5 months old Agouti Hooded female (almost certain she is from the same litter as Pip) who is always on the go - she loves her cuddles, but only when she wants them thank you very much ;D she is always wanting to explore and when she out for a bit of free-roam time, I always have to keep a careful watch on her so she doesn't escape lol Sox is about 3-3.5 months old and is an Agouti Berkshire. She is hyperactive, ever so slightly skittish (much better than she was), and is VERY cheeky. More than once I have caught her half out of the cage, having pushed the door open - she just gives me an cheeky look and keeps going! She is always moving and I can't take my eyes off her for a second when she is out for free time. All three of these girls came from pet shops as I don't know of any breeders near me, and to be honest didn't know that some in other parts of the country are willing to ship them interstate. I plan on getting more in the near future, and when I do I will likely look at getting them from a breeder

Hi everyone!
I'm new here, but not new to rats, I have owned them for years. I currently have 5 boys; Arillae (Mink Berkshire squish), Gabriel (Cinnamon Self) and three hooded rescues which I am currently rehabilitating and are as yet unamed. I hope it does not take me too long to get into the rest of the forum, I am an avid reader but don't write unless I have something to actively add to a discussion.
I am going to become a breeder in future but that will be at least a year, if not longer, as I am waiting for stock from reliable breeders that are what I am looking for, as well as then waiting long enough to be sure of their health and temperament.
I love big squishy boys, and Arillae is the biggest squish I have yet owned with the personality to suit his chubbiness.

Hi I'm Michelle (nickname Shell). I have 4 males at present and 2 females. They are: Fireo (cinnamon hooded), Jester (black hooded), Manx (black berkshire), Spike (PEW) and the girls are Splash (agouti berkshire) and Tawny (argente hooded). Please excuse me if I have the colors/markings wrong as I am still learning lol. We have 3 more rats coming end of September, 1 female dove hooded already named rosie, 1 argente female hooded named venom and 1 champagne hooded male named spunky. My three children and I have had rats for years, I find with a child with adhd, rats are amazing at helping to keep him calm and focused, plus they don't judge anyone and they are the most loyal and loving friends I have ever come across. My best friend (Tiny) passed unfortunately on February 8, 2008 from cancer but I will never forget him or the love he brought into my life, we were literally inseperable. I have had rats since I was 14, I am now 32. The last few months I have studied and learnt more than I have ever known, and I am joining this forum to continue to add to this knowledge and hopefully meet new people who love rats like me. I am an all round animal lover, but rats by far are my favorite pets Hope to talk to everyone soon

Hi my names Margy, we have 2 ratties both new, one is 10weeks old, which I found at a pet shop all alone and very skinny, having own 2 beautiful ratties previous, I knew they didn't like being on the own so I brought her home, she was very timid but is starting to come out of her shell and she put on heaps of weight, now she looks like a rattie and not a just a bit of skin, we have also just brought an 5 week old to keep her company, but when we got her home she was sneezing really bad so we took her straight to the vet, at the moment its still a bit touch and go with her, although she does seem to have recovered a bit, we also have her separate from the other little rattie for the moment until she recovers and grows enough to handle Rosie Rattie. We also own two dogs, a staffy and a sheppard X Rottie, one cockatiel, a canary, one rabbit and a horse. All the little creatures free range.

Hi everyone how are we all? I'm Nic I'm 25 an live on the gold coast with my 2 beautiful kids (daughter 5.10yrs and son 3.3yrs) and our 6 fur babies Lilly, Hannah an Miley.... Gandolf, Jacob an Edward ( all named by my daughter apart from Gandolf lol) I have had as pets and breeders rats and mice since I was about 7. By the time I got to year 6 I was obsessed with all things ratty and as much as I love mice, I loved my rats more so they ended up with 100% of my time. Till I had a horse riding accident an my ex who wasn't a fan of them refused to help me look after them while I recovered, so I had to give them up. Then I had my kids and became single lol and my kids now love our fur babies just as much as me I would love to get back into breeding buy the end of the year. As I now know an understand more about goals and the best ways to breed (only in theory lol yet to put into practice) as a teen I breed but for all the wrong reasons. I kinda had a goal but wasn't going out of my way to do the proper research or anything. I know smack on the wrist lol. I now know what my goals are an can't wait to reach them. I just got to make sure my life is ready for the commitment before I start. K so a bit more about me.... Well my kids and I move to the gold coast almost 2years ago from Syd. And we love it best thing we ever did. I love to cook, read, arts an crafty stuff, bbqs, getting to know people, talking lol I like all different types of music, my mood usually pics what in going to want to listen to. Same with movies lol. An as for books I read pretty much all styles but fantasy is my fave hehehe Most of my life revolves around my kids an fur babies lol I quit smoking last year after smoking since age 11 an only ever stoping while preg only to start up again nit long after they were born. It was hard. But thanks to all the adds an my daughter understanding them, I realize that I had to stop not just for my kids but for myself so I did.... Cold turkey an haven't looked back. I'm a bit of a health nut when it comes to food an exercise so the non smoking has made life so much easier lol we have chocolate, soft drink, party type food an junk food on special occasions only lol same for our fur babies. Umm I can't think of anything else right now. But feel free to ask me any questions. And I look forward to getting to know you all Nic
