Hi my names Jade, i'm 27, i live in country victoria near the beach. I am currently studying to be a counsellor. I love animals of all kinds and only just recently got out of mice after having them as pets for the last twelve years. I also have ponies and three dogs. I own 28 rats, 14 squishy boys and 14 active girls. I have owned rats for the past twelve years and couldn't imagine my life without them. I only breed occasionally and screen people thoroughly before letting anyone adopt my baby rattikins. I have taken in three rescues but have mostly bought my ratties from pet shops. I mostly have hooded and some berkshire and self rats. Colours i have include Agouti, Cinnamon, Mink, Dove, Buff, Black and Champagne. I love all of my ratties and they get lots of cuddles and out of cage time. My first rat was a big pink eyed white called Boss, he made me fall in love with these intelligent creatures, i soon added a cage mate Corey to keep Boss company and not long after others were added. I bred my first litter of babies three years later and still have rats here of this line. So thats a bit about me.

Hey! I'm a university student currently doing my first year physics undergraduate degree and am looking to add a little rattiness into my life =D!
I thought I'd come here to first learn about these very interesting creatures, and then to find some breeders breeding the kinds of rats I'm looking for! Hopefully I can find some that I'll have fun with for a very long time.
My other pet is a Carpet Python, so people keep telling me of the irony that my two favorite animals to have as pets are also quite opposites in nature, but ehh, I'll love them both!

Hi Kylie and Welcome, I hope you enjoy it here... I love the ratties names and now our 2 new ratty friends Shakira & Montana. they wouldnt happen to be named after the celebrities would they? lol Just looking at the names now, you could even shorten them down to Kira and Tana and they'd sound really cute too.

Hi everyone!! My name's Danielle. I live in Bega and have two gorgeous little ratty girls named Pixie and Mishka, as well as a cockatiel and 2 goldfish. Sometime in the future I may be thinking of having pet lizards or hermit crabs - you know, for something different! I'm a voracious reader, enjoy video games and the outdoors and love to have a bit of a laugh! It's great to be part of this forum and to be able to talk to people as enthusiastic about rats as I am. Looking forward to talking to you all!!

I have 2 young boys; Blitzkrieg and Kamikaze. Both are growing well and aside from Blitz being very territorial and a bully to Kamikaze they are splendidly adorable gentlemen.
I haven't owned rats in years so its been both easy and confusing with my new boys.
I only ever own boys (they have magnificent testicles, don't they!) but I have never had a rat as aggressive& territorial as Blitzkrieg.
Of course it doesn't make me love him any less.
I spend my days spoiling my rats and bumming around the houses/garden.
Good to finally find an aussie rat forum. cheers,
Prue

Welcome to the forum I've had to deal with one of my boys turning on his cagemates and becoming territorial. It was an interesting experience. lol

Cheers Wulfy;
Did the issue resolve itself or did you have to intervene (ie separation)
One of my mates (who has owned rats for a few years now) actually suggested putting Blitz down! (her point being that Blitz was clearly so aggressive and not socialised at a young age that he would be impossible to keep as a pet).
Even if Blitzkrieg remains an angry lad after intensive work (and a possible castration in 6 months time as a last resort) I would never get rid of him. 'Tis not his fault he's a bit of a nutter.
