Does anyone do anything special to remember their rats?

I have a very nice diary that my arty friend made for me. Its fantastic and really beautiful, so i stuck heaps of pet picture in it, with a special section in it for my rats who passed on last year.

Thats a good idea - sort of like having a photo album but more personal I made paw moulds of one of my ratties. I recently got one converted into a tattoo.

I'm planning on getting one set of pawprints for each rat that passes on as a tattoo. I haven't decided on placement yet.

Thanks Kim. It happened by chance i looked absolutley everywhere for clay, plasticine, plaster of paris, ANYTHING to make moulds with! The clay i did find was too hard, people are either sold out or dont sell plaster of paris anymore and i was in Crazy Clarks of all places and passed a big barrell of brightly packaged blobs and found out it was this kid friendly synthetic clay stuff.
Thats a good idea Dimruthien. that'll be awesome if you can get a collection of paws
I'll have a small collection of ratty tattoos one day. i saw a little intricate drawing of a rat an artist did. I asked her permission to use it one day and she was more than happy to agree - as long as she got a picture of it.

Those tattoo's are amazing, I love them all. I have 4 tattoo's if you count the one hidden under a cover up. *only got it covered because it couldnt be fixed to look like it was meant to*One of mine is a tribute to all my past and those who I will lose eventually. Its of my very first Rex rat, named Ivy who was a lovely Mink Self girl. Its taken from a photo of her standing up and she is on clouds, they cover her feet and she has a rainbow going behind her and and an Ivy border. Its between my left wrist and elbow. I'll get a photo of it in the next few days and post it up. I also wanted to get a photo of my very first rat, Mickey a Black Hooded boy I got in 1990, tattooed on me but so far I havent got around to that. I have at least 2 other tattoos I wanted to get done before I got Mickey done on me.

Thanks Kim!
Definitely post pics! They sound like beautiful tattoos.
I just had a funny thought... I wonder if anyone has had a jar of yoggies tattoo'd before. Or have a rat next to a jar of yoggies.
I hate that for work reasons the placement of tattoo's means that I'm limited in where I can put them. My biggest tattoo I have planned so far will eventually go on my calf. I work in solicitors offices so visible tattoo's and body piercings are frowned upon. I dont see the point of getting a tattoo thats always hidden so i pick places easy to hide at work, but easy to show outside of work. If i get one on my calf it means i have to wear pants even in summer. I dont know if that's wise in QLD lol
I have a labret piercing which is quick and easy to take in and out for work so thats a bonus.

I guess my idea for a chest piece could be a tribute. I want 2 of my rats (either Soap and Pidge, or Soap and Anniba) facing each other on my chest, with a heart between them on my sternum. The heart will be placed about where I have my dermal anchors at the moment. I don't know when I'll do it, but I will one day

Wow that sounds like it will be a beautiful piece. My tattoos in order of getting them are.... 1) *now covered* On my right breast. A coloured tattoo of a full moon with a tigers face in it, vines coming off it top and bottom, tigerlilies to the right and a butterfly to the left, which had my husbands name in it. Mist flowing around and stars around as well. *The moon was a just a circle the tigers face was yellow and didnt look like a tiger at all, had no ears or anything. The tigerliles looked like freaky daffodils and some of the colour had scabbed and come out when it was healing. The butterflies wings were all puffy / bumpy on the edges. - The only good bit was the mist and vines. - No one could fix it and my best option was laser removal or cover up. Although it took me a bit to find someone who would try to cover it. The original tattooist had no idea and was very heavy handed. I had it for 10 years before going to get it fixed. I dont regret the original tattoo, which is why I didnt want it removed. I do regret going to that particular tattooist.*2) A memorial tattoo to my mother who past away in 1993, its not coloured except for a rose on each side, it is between my left shoulder and elbow. I actually want to maybe have the roses changed and also have some ivy put in a circle around the whole tattoo so that it blends better with the tattoo on my lower arm. 3) A memorial tattoo to all past and future rats. One my lower left arm between my elbow and wrist. Its the one I mentioned earlier in a previous post. 4) My cover up on my right breast. Its a Tigers head and will have some flowers on the right of it. I just have to go and have that bit done. You can still see a little of the old tattoo through the new one but it kind of make this tiger look like it has scares which I kind of like. Those are my current tattoo's When I get my breast done it takes 4 to 8 weeks for it to heal to where I feel I can go get more done on it. The next few tattoo's I want to get include one that my husband and I want to get together on the same day and in the same place. Its a ivy covered petagram next to it but a little down is a Yin Yang symbol but one side is fire the other water and in Elvish script the word Kim will be written and the word David will be written. Of course David and I will have been married for 13 years this December and David doesnt have a problem with getting my name in Elvish. I wanted to get a tattoo also of my original rat from 1990, which I also mentioned earlier. I also want to get a tattoo of the Northern Territory with 3 places special to me marked on it. With possibly a Crocodile and a Barramundi around it. I also considered having the aboriginal flag colours in the N.T pic. - Not really sure though about that yet. I would also love to get a full back piece done but that probably wouldnt be for a very long time. As I prefer to have my tattoo's where I can see them myself without looking in a mirror, plus I only have a rough idea of what I would like on my back.

I particularly love the idea of the Elvish names.

I was a really big Lord Of The Rings freak and loved the elvish people and language and even learnt some spoken elvish words. So I talked my husband into getting some elvish written on his arm and then we talked my neice into getting some with her tattoo. Not that either really needed that much talking into it. I think its great because only you and anyone who can read elvish knows what it actually says.

I think at one stage or another most of us got into the LOTR hype.
We have some things lying around the house... replica swords, figurings, 3 copies of each book (cause I met my partner long after the movie came out). But thats not bad forus cause we like medieval things so there's a bit of a cross over. Luckily we havent collected much cause we'd have no room otherwise.
I also have my collection of ratty things... I have bumper stickers (which I ordered in bulk to sell at a show and still trying to sell them lol) then my collection of rat figurines and stuff
Elvish is a nice script though. Even if you dont know what it means its visually attractive
