Hello, I am looking for a pair of rats to add to our family so I have been calling/emailing breeders in the brisbane area (have only been able to contact 2 so far, I have a hard time finding them) Anyway one of the ladies who sounds like she really loves and takes care of her rats mentioned to me not to be alarmed but when the females go into season they bleed and to just be aware of that. I have been doing a lot of research into the care of rats and have read mostly that female rats shouldnt menstruate, that if they bleed like that its usual a sign of some internal problem like a tumor or urinary tract problems etc. Is this the case? I havent been to see the rats yet but I'm wondering whether I should bother making the trip if they are unwell.....

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner , I have been away from the computer for a while.
I hope that you didnt bother going to see the rats of this lady as Rats do NOT mestruate.
Anything that looks like blood coming from a female rats virgina should be considered bad ... unless the rat is actually giving birth ...
Stay away from that breed if at all possible.
