Hiya, for bedding i just use fleece to line the bottom of the cage and levels. My rats are litter trained so they poop in a litter tray, this helps keep the cage nice and tidy. In the litter tray i use Breeders Choice cat litter. Its just paper pellets and can also be used over the bottom of the whole cage if that's what you prefer. Good things for toys and that are Hammocks, Peg baskets, empty ice cream tubs, cat jingly balls and so many more.

Hi Conanj77, It might be more helpful if you ask questions that people can reply to.. Like what type of bedding do you use for your rats? What type of toys do you have for your rats? That kind of thing.. Basically I use Breeders choice cat litter on the bottom of my cages and I give my rats hammocks to sleep in and shredded paper to make nests with.. I also have some igloos for them to use as a home, but most of my rats prefer to lay on top of the igloo rather than in it.. I have found that my rats are really not big toy users, when I have put toys in their cages they have been either just chewed to bits or ignored.. but then I have about 20 rats per cage so they probably get enough fun from just playing with each other... I do have a small rat wheel that some of my baby rats enjoy running in but most of my adults dont like wheels.. But ropes, bells, mirrors are all good rat toys if you want to use something.. Rats can basically eat anything you can, with a few exceptions.. but there is a topic already going about food for rats and what they can an can not have.. Rats love human company but also love having a rat friend of the same sex... the more time you spend with your rats the more they bond to you.. Rats are great.. I'm better at answering straight out questions than I am at just giving general advice... sorry..

It really depends on your rat.. I have two rats, one likes a straw bed with lots of holes in it while the other likes a hammock. One likes yoghurt and one likes spaghetti, it all differs.

i would be very carefull when using straw, it can be dusty and little bits can break off and irritate their respiratory system. also sharp endds can end up in eyes :S i like breeders choice... pretty sure thats what its called
