Hi all, I was just wondering why there doesnt seem to be any or many brisbane ratteries... most sites ive come across are a few years out of date. Is there too many people who'd rather buy from pet shops? or is Brisbane lacking people who love rats at the moment? Im disappointed in the types of ratties we have up here... ive looked at a few interstate ratteries websites and they've got some awesome coloured and marked rats i'd love to be able to do something to promote rats as pets up here... considering we have bans on rabbits and ferrets etc, you'd think rats would be more popular?? Ive been to a couple of shows held by the rat society up here, but also disappointed at how small they are too! i loved watching a video called "rat ribbons" i came across on you tube. if anyone can shed any light on the topic i'd love to hear from you ;D

Hey there I know there are some rat breeders in Bris (I used to live there), but I don't know why there are so few. I suppose it's just not a big thing in Brisbane... but Lou always has lots of rats and adopts a lot out. I'm really not sure how you could promote them as pets there... Maybe talk to Lou and see how she finds her adopters, or ask her why there aren't many rat breeders there..

I might have a further think about it... i read the cavy sanctuary had a Pignic in the Park last year to promote guinea pig rescues etc.
i'd be good fun to be able to do something like that for ratties
p.s. from one of your other posts - i remember you from the rat rescue group too lol, im on there as well

I made the BRR website What is the BRR website? Is it the Brisband Rat Rescue? If you are refering to a Rattery then it would have to be BallaRats Rattery as apparently that ratteries prefix is still around, even though the rattery has changed names. I remember Kim (bozzy rats rattery) was very upset over the fact that her rattery in the NT was called Bush Rats Rattery (chanded to Bozzy when she got married) and her prefix was BRR but when she moved to Victoria she found that Balla Rats Rattery was using the BRR prefix and even though Kim's rattery was around years before the Balla Rats one people still thought of Ballarats rattery when they saw the prefix of BRR. Its also why Kim uses BOZ for Bozzy Rats Rattery instead of BRR. She kept the same initals of BRR - Bush Rats Rattery to Bozzy Rats Rattery. But she had to contact people who had a rat from her rattery where she used BRR and get them to change the pedigrees to BOZ. So yeah thats why I was just wondering what the BRR was as I'm sure when some people see the letters BRR they acutomatically think you are talking about a rattery. Maybe if you are talking about the Brisbane Rat Rescue you can use Bris RR.

I am referring to the Brisbane Rat Rescue. A lot of people now associate BRR with the rescue.

I am referring to the Brisbane Rat Rescue. A lot of people now associate BRR with the rescue. I know a huge number of people in Vic, NSW, SA, WA and Tas who associate BRR with BallaRats Rattery. I know of the Brisbane Rat Rescue because my twin sister lives in Qld, but I really dont think its that well know in other states, even though people may have heard of it. By the way, I've been to the N.T. Its a nice place although it was a little hot for me at times. Do you like it there?

Yes I do like the NT, though I've lived all around Australia and New Zealand (I'm a kiwi by birth). I am disappointed at the lack of interest in rats here, and the unavailability. Hence why I'd like to start a small rattery.

I'm an NT girl as well.. from Alice Springs but lived in Darwin too!
Whilst I think it's a shame we don't have lots of rat breeders in Brisbane, I do think we are very very fortuntate to have such a strong rescue group, there don't seem to be many rat rescues in Australia! Lou does a fantastic job!
