My cage is to small... Oh bugger, i actually thought it was a nice size for them. Though i am trying to save up to get one of the really large ones. The Ferret Kingdom is the one i really want for them. At the moment though my only leave the bottom floor to stash there food up top and thats it. They just hang out on the bottom the whole time hence why i never actually thought it was to small for them. I kinda feel bad now, i think ill have to try my very best at getting the money together for the big one.

Christie I have four rats in that cage, Its seemed fine to me. I let them free range often so they get the full range or our lounge and hallway, and they seem pretty happy. Only problem is that it gets messy fast and needs frequent cleans.

ohh, that cage. Well, it's probably too small for 4 rats, it would fit 2 nicely. You could get a second cage and split the girls up, but if you don't want to do that you could attach the second cage to the side of the cage you have now, and cut a hole through them both so they can use both cages. just a suggestion.
I know what you mean, some of the ferret cages i have seen around are perfect for rats! they are awesome cages, but sooo expensive. i'm going to save up for a $320 ferret cage i saw. It wasn't overly wide or long, but it was very tall. So it doesn't use up too much floor space, but it gives the rats the space to climb up.

I bought a really cheap square birdcage from a wholesale pet shop and it's big and roomy....so I just modified it to make it a rat cage! I put in wooden poles, ropes, ladders, levels, hammocks, shelters etc...and the bird feeders that came with it are perfect food bowls!

My first rat was a gift from my parents. She came in a glass tank that was recommended by the pet shop. Now I'm wondering if this was actually suitable. It had 3 levels and ramps, and I added extra bits and pieces and toys and things. Opinions?

I have never seen a glass tank with ramps and levels before, unless you put them in.
I would make sure your rats get enough ventilation. Often glass tanks can get very stuffy and smelly.

thats the same here, i havent heard of a glass aquarium that nice! lol.
I'd opt for wire/plastic/metal cages because i did have my first rat in a glass aquarium at first and always was worried i'd break it when cleaning it. Bit hard to manuver when cleaning as well

it came with levels and ramp fixed inside. I've used it for rats before, so i've dealt with the cleaning issues, but it did get a bit smelly and stuffy, though i let them out a lot. these ones will be in their cage more often, so I'm looking for a wire one. Need to get it on the cheap side atm though

Does anybody know of a good pet supply warehouse to go to in the east of melbourne? I am near Glen Waverley.
