I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to share the different types of ratties we own. I'd love to see pictures of your favourite marked or coloured ratties or even your most prized ratties! (because the standards vary between states and overseas just put the best colour or marking you know your rattie to be) To start - this is my fvourite marked rattie - so far he's the only blazed boy I've owned

dimruthien: Does m/m mean mismarked? I wonder is that where they have the markings but they arent perfect?
Eg. For an irish marking its usually a white triangle on the chest, but say you have a rat with the marking in the right spot but its an odd shape?
Hales80: thanks - my blazed boy was only the 2nd one i've seen up here in Brisbane. The other one i saw was a black hooded boy - his white blazed nose was so handsome
Is it possible to get a self coloured rat with a blaze? NOW that would make an awesome rattie lol especially if it was an agouti or black self

m/m is mismarked, yes.
A m/m irish is generally considered a m/m berkshire.

A m/m irish is generally considered a m/m berkshire. Only if there is some white anywhere other than on the chest. If the white marking is only on the chest between the front legs then its a m/m Irish If the white marking is on the chest but there is white on the tummy at all or going down to the tummy then it would be a m/m berk.

Thanks Dimruthien and Kim, that helped me There are more types of markings and extra colours that we dont really see in QLD. It'd be nice if we had a bigger variety up here cause they're all so cute!! I cant believe how many more different types that places like the UK and US get. The dumbo's are pretty cool lol.

I'm really not that into the Dumbo's I'm more a hairless rat person and I wouldnt mind a siamese marked rat either.

Dumbos are cute, but I'm not hanging out for their appearance in Australia. My one passion with rats we don't have here is Siamese and Himalayan.
With rats we have here in Australia, I'm a fan of rex and double rex (and I really like rex/silky crosses), and colour-wise, I'm nutty about the "oranges". Silverfawn, topaz, argente...
I admit I have a soft spot for black berks too. They're just so cute with their little white hands!

Silvered blacks are really pretty too. I have a silvered dove at the moment.... his name is Dexter but i changed the spelling to Dex-star because he's so silver and shiny lol
I have one misfit though... he's a light orangey-grey colour, but his head is light orange with no grey or silver. His body is a mixture of light orange and either grey or silver... is there such a thing as a silvered topaz or argente or would he be a very light coloured mink?

My sisters rat was argente, and around his eyes and toward the end of his nose, his colour faded to this grey dove/mink colour. It looked quite odd, and the older he got the lighter he became, in fact i thought that his colour changed many times throughout his life. So maybe he is just a miss-coloured rat, or he just has a range of colours in one! and depending on how old he is, his colour my get lighter or darker.
