I used to have a rat years ago, who I loved dearly. He was like a member of our family. His cage was never closed, and he had run of the house. He had one corner that he used to do his business in, and he had a pillow under my office desk that he used to hide food items that he had stolen throughout the day. He came to his name, and of a night when called he'd come and sit at my feet for a good night pat. I'd say "in bed" and off he'd go to his cage for the night. I could take him outside for walks, and he would stay by my feet and never run off, or he'd walk a couple of paces in front of me and stop and wait till I caught up. And if we ever had chineese take away, he'd sit right by my husband and wait for the peas. lol ( My hubby hates peas)

I think it has been proven that rats are very intelligent creatures
My rats used to LOVe riding around on me.
One evening I came home, and my (very drunk) ex told me my rat was "lost"
seems he got her out of her cage, and tried to do the whole "I'm SO good with this rat...)
The ex had tried to put the rat on his shoulder, she took the opportunity to JUMP and disappear........
funny thing, a while after I came home, she climbed up my leg....
don't remember her name, but she was one great rat
