In summer I am always putting big bowles of water around for my rats with peas, corn, carrot and other things in. Then I just watch them go diving for the stuff at the bottom. Its can be a bit messy with water getting all over the place, but it keeps them cool on the hotter days and they seem to enjoy it. Its also fun to watch as some have no problems putting their heads full in the water to get something, where as others will only stick their hands in to try and get something. Nifty idea! I'm going to have to try hiding stuff underwater to see how keen they are to get it! Should be fun!

My rats arent keen on being bathed! We give them a quick wash only if they get real smelly, or in summer, to cool them down. Its not an enjoyable experience for them, so we get it over as quick as possible! Luckily they keep themselves pretty clean!..

I dont bathe my rats at all, i find if i keep them in smaller numbers with regualr cage cleaning they shouldnt need baths at all. i do have some ferret wipes that i wipe each down before i show them, just so they smell pretty and not so ratty like.

Yeah i have never given any rat i own a bath, they just don't need it. I also just happen to like the natural ratty smell. Well the natural smell of their coats anyways. Sometimes if they have been sitting in the same hammock for to long they smell like pee but that doesn't last long cause they soon clean themselves up.

I bathe my rats about once a month. I dont use any soaps unless they are extra dirty and smelly (like they have something on them that they cant groom off!). Mine dont really seem mind... they dont struggle and I get it over with really quickly =]. I pretty much just throw them in, get them wet and dry them. My boys seem to get pretty stinky despite the fact that I change their bedding every two day.. but once they've had rinse they dont smell at all =].

we bath our male rat every now and then to minumis the smell which is very confusing for our cat which is a good thing as our cat loved to catch any little criters that are running around in the house when we were a lot younger but we dont bath him in the sink we bath him when we have showers as we tried this and he seemed to like it more as he put his head under the water

I don't really bath my rats... But they get in the shower with me, and I'll give their tails a little rinse while we're in there. Luckily they are okay with water. Nico spends most of the shower perched on my foot cleaning his lovely fur.

Believe me, I'm very very careful! And they aren't allowed in while I'm doing the soap thing!

we've only bathed our rats a couple times, they don't like it and they keep themselves pretty clean anyway. we followed the dapper rat instructions when bathing.
we use a paint roller tray for water on really hot days and we put ice cubes (they love them) and corn kernals/peas/yoghurt drops in the water. they don't splash around in it but they will stand in the shallow end.
the other day our baby rat jumped into the toilet. luckily it was clean and he was only half submerged, but he wasn't happy! i bathed him after that incident.

I bathe my girls only when its really necessary... usually more than a month between baths - they are very clean girls They HATE it when its bath time though haha I end up with tiny scratches all over me They love pea fishing so its not like they hate water - they don't seem to mind it as long as it's on their terms (well... two of then do lol one of then is so against water she will just sit on the side and grab a pea as it floats past her haha)
