I'm in SA too - I'm glad to see that I'm not alone. I've been hunting for a breeder without much luck, so if anyone would be willing to pass on the details, I would be very greatful. The same goes for a vet! I'm on the south-west side of town. I've heard and seen good things about P&K pets as well (it's one of the few pet shops that I would willingly buy from if I had to, because I know the staff actually care about what they're doing), but really, I would much prefer to buy from a good breeder - I wouldn't buy a puppy from a pet shop, and I would prefer not to buy a rat from one either

Welcome to the forum, Ceara, after you have posted 10 times, and have access to the rest of the forum, take a look under the breeders listing, there is one there for a SA breeder.

I have a white female I rescued from becoming snake food and she probably wasnt handled at all as a baby. She can be quite aggressive, one moment taking some attention and then launching a full on attack, she's caused quite a bit of damage to my hands etc. Now I usually put a sock over my hand when I have to put my hand into the cage to do anything. Her daughter, Maddie, is quite the opposite. I handled her from day 1 and she is the sweetest, gentlest of rats, loving cuddles, affection and playing too. Our 2 boys are also very gentle and sweet and the three of them have never shown signs of aggression at all.
